The Doctor Who Experience Photos Released

The official Doctor Who website has released a gallery of photos from the Doctor Who Experience, which opens in London this weekend. The event has been described as “the ultimate Doctor Who Adventure”, and is part immersive experience, part interactive exhibition. Specially written scenes featuring Matt Smith as the Doctor, fiendishly inventive sets, and incredible effects conspire to make the Doctor Who Experience more than just an exhibition.

The premise of the immersive adventure is to take visitors through their very own journey across time and space, helping the Doctor, dealing with Daleks and whirling through a breath-taking world. There will be three TARDIS sets on views, as well as classic monsters and mementoes from the show itself.

The Doctor Who Experience gallery can be viewed here.

Doctor Who Series 6 - Hugh Bonneville Cast as Pirate Captain

The BBC has announced that Hugh Bonneville will be playing the Pirate Captain in the new series of Doctor Who, which begins this Spring. Bonneville is one of the UK’s most accomplished and familiar actors, having appeared in the recent 'Downton Abbey' and movies including ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’.

Discussing his new role in Doctor Who, Bonneville said: “When I was a boy THAT music and Jon Pertwee's Doctor had me peeking out from behind the sofa every Saturday night. All these years later I am thrilled to be appearing in the new series. Although the Pirate's fears and demons are different to those of the young lad who watched through his fingers, they are no less vivid and terrifying; this new adventure is not for the faint-hearted.”

Doctor Who Back in the USA - Day Four Video

Doctor Who Character Building Micro Figures

BBC Worldwide has announced a major new deal with Character Options' new Construction division which will see Doctor Who enter the construction toy market for the first time.

The Character Building range will include 3D micro-figures, brought to life with sculpted facial features whilst play sets will be uniquely tailored to Doctor Who. Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with all their favourite characters including the Doctor and Amy Pond with their famous foes the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.

Distinctive to the Character Building range will be the use of texture on some of the building blocks, whether it be the sleek and smooth edges of a spaceship, or the rough edges of a rock face. This will be pivotal in recreating each environment, providing a natural look, but still allowing easy construction play. The entire range will be displayed at the Character Options stand at the London Toy Fair with the first products set for release in Spring 2011.

The full report can be read here, with comments from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.
