David Walliams in Doctor Who Series 6
David Walliams announced on BBC Radio 2 that he will be playing an alien character in the new series of Doctor Who. “I've actually been offered a part in Doctor Who,” Walliams told BBC Radio 2. “I've said yes. I don't think I can say much, but I'll say I'm an alien.”Before Matt Smith was handed the role of Doctor, it was rumoured that Walliams himself would play the Eleventh Doctor. “I think any actor wouldn't turn that down," said Walliams. “I won't be cast now though because they're getting younger.”

Doctor Who Series 6 Filming in Charlestown
The Sun newspaper reported about the recent filming at Charlestown in Cornwall for the third episode in Series 6, which saw Karen Gillan fighting with pirates and swinging from ropes. The article includes some high quality photos of the Doctor and Amy in action, and can be read in full here.“The flame-haired companion, played by 23-year-old Karen Gillan, brandished a cutlass while dressed in a pirate costume, including a tricorn hat and military jacket, while filming last night. But Karen wasn't alone during the scenes shot on a tall ship in Charlestown, Cornwall - she was joined by co-star Matt Smith.
The 28-year-old, who plays time travelling alien the Doctor, seemed to be having an easier time during filming than Karen. While Matt - dressed in his usual Doctor's costume of tweed jacket and bow tie - stayed mostly on the ship's deck, Karen was forced to try swinging across the boat from its rigging. Later scenes seem to show the Doctor being forced to walk the plank by the scurvy seadogs.”

Doctor Who Series 6 - Hugh Bonneville Cast as Pirate Captain

Bonneville is one of the UK’s most accomplished and familiar actors, having appeared in the recent 'Downton Abbey' and movies including ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’.Discussing his new role in Doctor Who, Bonneville said: “When I was a boy THAT music and Jon Pertwee's Doctor had me peeking out from behind the sofa every Saturday night. All these years later I am thrilled to be appearing in the new series. Although the Pirate's fears and demons are different to those of the young lad who watched through his fingers, they are no less vivid and terrifying; this new adventure is not for the faint-hearted.”

Doctor Who at the National Television Awards
It proved to be a very disappointing night for Doctor Who at the National Television Awards yesterday, with it losing out on the awards for Best Drama and Best Actor. The award for Best Drama instead went to Waterloo Road, a very surprising result considering the other competition, and the award for Best Actor went to David Jason, a deserving winner although disappointing for Matt Smith. The cause for the lack of awards for Doctor Who was almost certainly due to a split vote, with many people being fans of both Doctor Who and Sherlock, and also both Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch. However, Steven Moffat should still be very proud for his two main shows and lead actors being nominated for awards, and there will be plenty of opportunities in the future to win awards!

Doctor Who Character Building Micro Figures
BBC Worldwide has announced a major new deal with Character Options' new Construction division which will see Doctor Who enter the construction toy market for the first time. The Character Building range will include 3D micro-figures, brought to life with sculpted facial features whilst play sets will be uniquely tailored to Doctor Who. Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with all their favourite characters including the Doctor and Amy Pond with their famous foes the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.
Distinctive to the Character Building range will be the use of texture on some of the building blocks, whether it be the sleek and smooth edges of a spaceship, or the rough edges of a rock face. This will be pivotal in recreating each environment, providing a natural look, but still allowing easy construction play. The entire range will be displayed at the Character Options stand at the London Toy Fair with the first products set for release in Spring 2011.
The full report can be read here, with comments from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.
