Lily Cole Plays Monster in Doctor Who Series 6

The official Doctor Who site has announced that Lily Cole will act alongside Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the third episode of the new series. In the story scripted by Steve Thompson, Lily plays a mysterious creature that haunts a pirate ship. Lily was reported saying “It is a great script and fun character and I'm glad to be involved!”

Lily Cole shot to fame as a supermodel but has recently starred in movies including St. Trinian's and Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

David Walliams in Doctor Who Series 6

David Walliams announced on BBC Radio 2 that he will be playing an alien character in the new series of Doctor Who. “I've actually been offered a part in Doctor Who,” Walliams told BBC Radio 2. “I've said yes. I don't think I can say much, but I'll say I'm an alien.”

Before Matt Smith was handed the role of Doctor, it was rumoured that Walliams himself would play the Eleventh Doctor. “I think any actor wouldn't turn that down," said Walliams. “I won't be cast now though because they're getting younger.”

Doctor Who Series 6 Episode 7 Title Revealed

The Spotlight page for Simon Fisher-Becker has listed him as playing Dorium Maldavar in the seventh episode of Series 6, which has the working title of ‘Demons Run’. The story is written by Steven Moffat and will end on a cliffhanger to conclude the first half of the series.

Details about the storyline and Maldavar’s character are currently unknown, however it is believed that River Song will feature heavily in the story.

Doctor Who Series 6 - Hugh Bonneville Cast as Pirate Captain

The BBC has announced that Hugh Bonneville will be playing the Pirate Captain in the new series of Doctor Who, which begins this Spring. Bonneville is one of the UK’s most accomplished and familiar actors, having appeared in the recent 'Downton Abbey' and movies including ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’.

Discussing his new role in Doctor Who, Bonneville said: “When I was a boy THAT music and Jon Pertwee's Doctor had me peeking out from behind the sofa every Saturday night. All these years later I am thrilled to be appearing in the new series. Although the Pirate's fears and demons are different to those of the young lad who watched through his fingers, they are no less vivid and terrifying; this new adventure is not for the faint-hearted.”

Adrian Schiller and Elizabeth Berrington in Doctor Who Series 6

It has been announced that Adrian Schiller and Elizabeth Berrington are among the guest cast to feature in the third episode of Series 6, which was written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Richard Clark. Schiller is reported as playing the character of ‘Uncle’ in the story and Berrington is ‘Aunt’.

Adrian Schiller recently played Noah Zeitler in the BBC series ‘Silk’, and has also appeared in ‘Being Human’ and ‘Going Postal’. Elizabeth Berrington plays the regular character Ruby in ‘Waterloo Road’, and appeared as Nurse Nicola in ‘Psychoville’. Suranne Jones was previously announced as playing Idris in this episode by Neil Gaiman.

Jimmy Vee Returns to Doctor Who Series 6

The Evening Times has revealed that the actor Jimmy Vee is returning to Doctor Who for a story that is being filmed this year, although details of who or what he’s playing are being kept top secret. Jimmy has played many roles on the show and has already acted alongside the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors. He is probably best known for the role of Bannakaffalatta in ‘Voyage of the Damned’ and the recurring Graske and Groske monsters.

“The 3ft 8in Glasgow performer has appeared in half a dozen episodes of the cult sci-fi show, and even joined the Australian pop icon in the Christmas special three years ago. He also played a goblin in the first Harry Potter film and is regularly called on for parts in kid’s Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures.”

Burkey's Doctor Who Animated Series

A brand new series of animated Doctor Who adventures will be released next year by Jay Burke, who has created his own Twelfth Doctor and companion Eve Miller. The series will see the relationship between the Doctor and his companion develop in new and exciting ways over thirteen weeks, with scripts from Jay Burke and Captin Franko and myself.

Burkey has released a brand new clip from his opening episode, ‘The Chase is On’, which will be released in the new year. This exclusive clip is available to view below, and also reveals the names of the people who provide the voices of the Twelfth Doctor and Eve Miller’s brother, Wesley Miller.

Doctor Who Series 6 Opener Cast Revealed

It has been announced in Doctor Who Magazine that the American-born Stuart Milligan has joined the cast of the dramatic season opener to the sixth series of Doctor Who, which is currently being filmed on location in Utah.

Milligan is most famous for being a regular character in the popular detective drama Jonathan Creek, as well as having played the voice of General Stark in the 2009 animated Doctor Who story ‘Dreamland’. He also starred alongside Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor in the Big Finish audio adventure ‘The Reaping’.

Other cast members confirmed for Episodes 1 and 2 of the new series include Marnix van den Broeke, Chuk Lwuji, Mark Griffin, Kerry Shale, Glenn Wrage, Jeff Mash, Sydney Wade, Tommy Campbell, Peter Banks, Nancy Baldwin, Kieran O’Connor, Alex Giannini, Adam Napier, Henrietta Clemett, Paul Critoph, Ricky Fearon and Emilio Aquino.

Doctor Who Sylvester McCoy in The Hobbit

It has been revealed that the Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy will play the character of Radagast the Brown in the upcoming film ‘The Hobbit’. Rumours about McCoy’s involvement in the Peter Jackson film have been around for a while, but this is the first conformation from the actor that he has been offered a role.

McCoy was offered the role last week at a meeting in Wellington, which took place with Peter Jackson and the co-producer and co-writer Philippa Boyens. The Hobbit is expected to be released in two parts, with the first due for release in 2012.

Mark Sheppard Guests in Doctor Who Series 6

It has been reported that the actor Mark Sheppard has secured a role in Series 6 of Doctor Who, after the US convention ValleyCon 36 announced that Sheppard had to pull out of their event due to new work commitments on Doctor Who.

Their press release states: “We had just booked Mark’s airline tickets a week ago when less than 12 hours later he got the dream job of any kid who grew up in England-and many kids here too. He landed a huge role in the new Dr. Who but they needed him there the next day. There was no way we were going to stand in the way of that and so Mark took the job but with his deepest apologies. We will try to work out an appearance with him in the future and wish him great luck with Dr. Who!”

It is believed that Mark Sheppard will appear in the opening two-parter of the series, which began shooting this week with Toby Haynes directing.

Doctor Who Series 6 - Surrane Jones Confirmed to Play Idris

The official Doctor Who website has revealed that the former Coronation Street star Surrane Jones will appear as a young woman called Idris in Series 6, in the episode which is written by Neil Gaiman.

Jones previously appeared in ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ episode ‘Mona Lisa's Revenge’, where she played an evil incarnation of the Mona Lisa. The filming for this episode of Doctor Who officially begins today.

Neil Gaiman commented: “Suranne is marvellous. She's beautiful, funny and strange. It’s the kind of role that people will remember forever, so we needed someone who was able to pull that off, and to keep up with Matt Smith. And bite him. Suranne does all three.”

Suranne revealed: “As an actor, it’s hugely exciting to be cast in Doctor Who. I'm a massive fan of the show and I was blown away when I read Neil's script and uncovered what's in store for my character. However, I'm sworn to secrecy so viewers will just have to wait until next year to find out any other juicy details!”

Doctor Who: The Brilliant Book 2011 Interview

A small preview of ‘Doctor Who: The Brilliant Book 2011’ has been posted by SFX Magazine, which includes a revealing interview with Doctor Who Executive Producer Steven Moffat, who discusses the 2010 Christmas, the story-arc for Series 6, and the revelation of River Song’s true identity...

2010 Christmas Special: “This one’s incredibly Christmassy. That’s true of the previous ones but I wanted to go for broke. It’s easily the most Christmassy thing you’ll ever see. It’s a huge, sentimental, lovely, jeopardy-driven story. It’s the Christmas special I’d like to see. It’s like a compilation of every Christmas movie. A big Christmas treat. But that doesn’t mean it’s without scares, and that doesn’t mean it’s without heartbreak. It has genuine tragedy in it.”

Series 6 Story-Arc: “Nothing will be left hanging forever. Some things will be addressed relatively quickly. We’re going into the silence and what they [out italics] are… There’s been a sort of tradition, which I semi-followed through with the crack, of there just being a sort of meme through the series, and I think, actually, a bigger mystery and a bigger story is possible now. I’m going to handle it slightly differently next year.”

River Song’s Identity: “That’s absolutely coming. You’re going to find out very soon, and that means we have to do it next series, really… The critical thing here is I want to explain who she is, not explain away who she is. If you don’t deliver on most people’s expectations, and you just say, ‘Ooh, she’s a specially programmed android who believes she’s the Doctor’s wife,’ people will go, ‘That‘s a cheat.’ You can’t do that… It’s a really good story, and it’s sort of the story of next year.”

The Sun Claim "Amy Pond Dies in Series 6"

The Sun newspaper has rumoured that Amy Pond will die at the end of the first half of Series 6, which could explain the dramatic cliffhanger that Steven Moffat had previously teased fans about.

However, The Sun is famous for getting Doctor Who news incorrect on a regular basis, so the likelihood of this story being true is small.

‘Sherlock’ Returns for Second Series

Executive producer Steven Moffat and producer Sue Vertue appeared on the BBC Breakfast programme this morning, where they discussed the future of their show ‘Sherlock’.

Sue Vertue confirmed that more episodes will be made of the very successful series: “There will be more. We’re having a meeting to talk about how many and when.”

Katherine Jenkins Confirms Filming Complete

Katherine Jenkins has revealed that she has now finished filming for the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas special. She tweeted: “I’ve finished filming all my scenes for Dr Who now… Feel really sad as I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would! Lovely people!”

Danny Horn also confirmed that he’s finished filming on the special, posting: “And once again back to the realm of the unemployed. Amazing month.”

'Torchwood: The New World' - Rhys Confirmed

It has now been confirmed that Gwen Cooper’s husband Rhys is returning for the fourth series of Torchwood, and will have a significant role to play in events.

Russell T Davies was quoted as saying “Gwen has a lovely husband called Rhys, and now a baby between the two of them. The sight of Gwen Cooper with a baby in one arm and gun in the other is going to be our poster, I hope, because that’s just going to be irresistible, but I can’t imagine Gwen without him, and so he’s back. He’s a very big part of events.”

Davies also confirmed that the team will be facing “far more than just a monster” in ‘Torchwood: The New World’, and teased fans by saying that Captain Jack’s first appearance is “running and fighting and being brilliant”.

The official website of Steve North announced that he will be playing the character of ‘Older Benjamin’ in the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Other confirmed guest actors in the special include Michael Gambon, Katherine Jenkins and Danny Horn, who is rumoured to have Christmas dinner with the Doctor.

Torchwood Series 4 Cast News

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello has published details on some of the main characters that will appear in the fourth series of Torchwood, due to go into production in January 2011.

“I’ve gathered on the new season (airing on my new favourite cable network, Starz), the show is out to cast a new series regular — Rex Matheson, a wickedly funny (operative word: wicked) CIA agent born to make waves. Almost as key to the new season are recurring characters Esther Katusi, a CIA grunt in her early 20s who learns what she’s really made of only when she’s forced to, and Oswald Jones, a convicted murderer and pedophile who will be as shocked as anyone to learn how easily infamy and fame can be exchanged for one another.”

The new series is expected to be broadcasted during the summer of 2011 in both the UK and the US.
