Doctor Who Series 6 Episode Order Changed

Steven Moffat has exclusively revealed in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine that the episode order for Series 6 has now been shuffled, with the order of Episodes 3, 4 and 9 being changed.

Moffat states that the reason for the change is that there was “Not Enough Outside and Too Many Torches in the first run of seven.” The details of the episodes as printed in the magazine can be viewed below.

Episodes 1 & 2

Written by head writer Steven Moffat, this two-part season opener sees the Doctor, Amy and Rory embarking on an epic adventure in 1960s America. The team are joined once again by the mysterious River Song, played by Alex Kingston, while Stuart Milligan and Mark Sheppard guest star in major roles. The director is Toby Haynes.

Episode 3

Formerly Episode 9, this episode comes from the pen of Steve Thompson. A newcomer to Doctor Who, Steve won the Art Council’s Meyer-Whitworth award for new writing for his 2004 play, Damages. For television, he has written episodes of ITV’s Whistleblowers, and most notably the second episode of the BBC’s acclaimed Sherlock. This episode is set to go in front of the cameras early in the New Year, as part of Block Four.

Episode 4

Now moved from its original position of Episode 3 is the much-anticipated story by award-winning author Neil Gaiman. The adventure guest-stars Suranne Jones playing someone who Neil tells us “might just turn out to be an old acquaintance with a new face.” Episode 4 is directed by Richard Clark.

Episodes 5 & 6

Tentatively titled The Rebel Flesh and Gangers, this story is written by Matthew Graham and directed by Julian Simpson, while the guest cast includes Raquel Cassidy, Marshall Lancaster, Sarah Smart and Mark Bonnar.

Episode 7

Steven Moffat writes the concluding script for the first half of the season, which will form half of the fourth recording block along with Episode 3.

Episode 9

After Steven Moffat’s conclusion to the mid-season cliffhanger, the series continues with Episode 9, by Mark Gatiss. (This was previously Episode 4.) Directed by Richard Clark, the guest cast includes Daniel Mays, Andrew Tiernan, Leila Hoffman, Emma Cunniffe, Jamie Oram and Sophie Cosson.

Adrian Schiller and Elizabeth Berrington in Doctor Who Series 6

It has been announced that Adrian Schiller and Elizabeth Berrington are among the guest cast to feature in the third episode of Series 6, which was written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Richard Clark. Schiller is reported as playing the character of ‘Uncle’ in the story and Berrington is ‘Aunt’.

Adrian Schiller recently played Noah Zeitler in the BBC series ‘Silk’, and has also appeared in ‘Being Human’ and ‘Going Postal’. Elizabeth Berrington plays the regular character Ruby in ‘Waterloo Road’, and appeared as Nurse Nicola in ‘Psychoville’. Suranne Jones was previously announced as playing Idris in this episode by Neil Gaiman.

Doctor Who Series 6 – Mark Gatiss Rumoured to Play the War Chief

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine featured a Production Notes articles with Neil Gaiman, who revealed some small details about his upcoming story for Series 6. The most important notes he revealed about the episode were: “Now it all starts in void-space, with something – or someone – we have not seen since The War Games, and a knock on the TARDIS door…”

This has caused many fans to speculate that the returning “something” is the War Chief, who played an important role in the epic ten-part adventure The War Games. There has also been a picture posted online by Mark Gatiss of him wearing a moustache, which was titled “Return of the War Chief!”

All of this information combined has led to many fans believing that Mark Gatiss will be playing this role in Neil Gaiman’s episode for Series 6, despite Gatiss already having acted in Doctor Who when playing Richard Lazarus in Series 3. All of this is speculation at the moment, and has been denied by Mark Gatiss. However, the possibility of the War Chief returning is plausible.

Doctor Who Live Matt Smith Interview

The Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith was interviewed behind the scenes at a Doctor Who Live performance, where he discussed his work on the Christmas Special and sixth series of the show. The interview ended with Smith summing up the Christmas Special in three words, and complimenting Steven Moffat on his excellent ideas.

Unfortunately the sound quality varies in this video, but is still enjoyable to watch.

Doctor Who Series 6 Episode 3 Filming Photos

Photos from the filming yesterday at Taffs Well in Cardiff have been released online, and show the TARDIS prop amongst various pieces of debris in a quarry. This picture also shows the remains of two pillars, which appear to have been badly damaged.

This scene will appear in the third episode of Series 6, which was written by Neil Gaiman.

Doctor Who Series 6 - Neil Gaiman's Episode Begins Filming

The Doctor Who production team have begun filming on Neil Gaiman's story for Series 6. The episode is the second of the series to be filmed under Block 1, and is directed by Richard Clark. Neil Gaiman commented:

“I am in Cardiff today and tomorrow. Doctor Who Confidential are going to interview me and I'm now going to (steal the TARDIS and explore the whole of space and time fighting evil wherever I encounter it) potter about the set for a bit and not look at all suspicious.”

Doctor Who Series 6 - Surrane Jones Confirmed to Play Idris

The official Doctor Who website has revealed that the former Coronation Street star Surrane Jones will appear as a young woman called Idris in Series 6, in the episode which is written by Neil Gaiman.

Jones previously appeared in ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ episode ‘Mona Lisa's Revenge’, where she played an evil incarnation of the Mona Lisa. The filming for this episode of Doctor Who officially begins today.

Neil Gaiman commented: “Suranne is marvellous. She's beautiful, funny and strange. It’s the kind of role that people will remember forever, so we needed someone who was able to pull that off, and to keep up with Matt Smith. And bite him. Suranne does all three.”

Suranne revealed: “As an actor, it’s hugely exciting to be cast in Doctor Who. I'm a massive fan of the show and I was blown away when I read Neil's script and uncovered what's in store for my character. However, I'm sworn to secrecy so viewers will just have to wait until next year to find out any other juicy details!”

Richard Clark Reveals Set Image and Information

Richard Clark, who is currently directing two episodes of Series 6, has been posting many comments on the social networking site ‘Twitter’, teasing fans about what they can expect from his stories. He also exclusively released this image of one of the sets.

The latest tweets from Clark include: “I'm scared filming this. The kids are gonna freak”, and “Just rehearsed finale. Never laughed so hard as when 'bob' prepared to do battle”.

The episodes that Clark has been working on are the stories penned by Neil Gaiman and Mark Gatiss, rumoured to be the third and fourth of the series. Director of Photography Owen McPolin, who worked on ‘The Eleventh Hour’, and Designer Michael Pickwoad have joined him in the production of these stories.

Doctor Who Series 6 Begins Filming

The filming of the sixth series of Doctor Who has officially begun today, with Neil Gaiman’s episode going into production today in Cardiff. It is currently believed that this episode will be the third to be transmitted in the series, due to be broadcast in Spring 2011.

The second story to be filmed in this block is Mark Gatiss’ instalment for the series, and both stories are being directed by Richard Clark, whose previous credits include ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ from Series 3.

Mark Gatiss Writes for Series 6

It has been revealed that Mark Gatiss is writing an episode of Doctor Who for Series 6, after the director Richard Clark posted this news on Twitter. Clark previously directed ‘The Lazarus Experiment’ in Series 3, where Gatiss played the lead role.

When commenting about the story on Twitter, he said: “In the thick of Dr Who. New drafts coming along. Mark Gatiss story wonderful.” Clark also commented on Neil Gaiman’s script, saying: “Neil’s script read wonderfully. We’re on our way.”

It has been speculated that Richard Clark will direct both of these stories, and that they will be filmed in the same production block. He said that both of the scripts are “falling into place beautifully”, and that they will be some of the most anticipated stories of Series 6.

Neil Gaiman Praises Cast and Crew

Neil Gaiman has praised the cast and crew who are working on his forthcoming Doctor Who episode, which he confirmed is currently scheduled as the third episode of Series 6. The writer revealed that the show’s stars had recently assembled to read through his story.

“The table-read was pretty amazing. The guest stars will be fabulous, Matt Smith is great, Arthur Darvill is wonderful, and I never got to say hello to Karen Gillan, who was amazing.”

Gaiman also added to his notes that minor changes are still being made to the script as production continues.

“I had a meeting after the read-through with the producers and director, pin-pointing stuff that needs fixing or clarifying. But nothing that needs rewriting is anything other than cosmetic.”
