Doctor Who Character Building Micro Figures

BBC Worldwide has announced a major new deal with Character Options' new Construction division which will see Doctor Who enter the construction toy market for the first time.

The Character Building range will include 3D micro-figures, brought to life with sculpted facial features whilst play sets will be uniquely tailored to Doctor Who. Fans will be able to build their own Doctor Who world with all their favourite characters including the Doctor and Amy Pond with their famous foes the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels.

Distinctive to the Character Building range will be the use of texture on some of the building blocks, whether it be the sleek and smooth edges of a spaceship, or the rough edges of a rock face. This will be pivotal in recreating each environment, providing a natural look, but still allowing easy construction play. The entire range will be displayed at the Character Options stand at the London Toy Fair with the first products set for release in Spring 2011.

The full report can be read here, with comments from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.

Doctor Who 'Resurrection of the Daleks' Action Figure Set

The official Forbidden Planet website has released information about a new ‘Resurrection of the Daleks’ action figure set, which includes the Fifth Doctor, Davros, a grey Drone Dalek and the black Supreme Dalek.

“The TARDIS, with the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough on board, becomes caught in a time corridor. Once freed it materialises in London in 1984 near the exit of the corridor. Upon investigating warehouses nearby, the travellers stumble upon a trap set for them by the Daleks!

Meanwhile, in the future at the other end of the time corridor, a Dalek battle cruiser attacks an obsolete Earth prison station in deep space to free Davros, their creator. Held in suspended animation aboard the station for over ninety years, the Daleks aim is to get his help in finding an antidote to a virus deadly only to Daleks. The virus was created by a race of humanoid robots called Movellans who have been at war with the Daleks for centuries.”

Doctor Who Series 5 Pandorica Action Figures

The official Forbidden Planet website has revealed that there will be a new action figure set with figures associated with the Pandorica. The 6 figures in the set include the Eleventh Doctor with a fez and mop, Amy Pond, a Silurian Warrior, a Roman Soldier, a Weeping Angel holding the Doctor’s coat, and the Guard Cyberman. All of the figures come with a part of the Pandorica which can be built once all parts are collected.

However, this set contains two large errors as the figures are meant to be associated with the Pandorica. The first mistake is that Amy is wearing the completely wrong costume, as Character Options are only re-releasing the figure with her costume from ‘Victory of the Daleks’. The second mistake is that the Guard Cyberman has two arms, despite him only being shown with one. Also, the helmet was closed when connected to the rest of the body.

These new figures are available to pre-order from Forbidden Planet either separately at the price of £8.99, or as a set for £53.94, and are expected to arrive at their warehouse on 20th December 2010.

Doctor Who Seventh Doctor Action Figure

The official Forbidden Planet website has revealed that a single action figure of the Seventh Doctor will be released later this month, wearing his hat, cream jacket and umbrella as seen in ‘Time and the Rani’. The figure was previously released in an exclusive set with the white Imperial Dalek.

“Mercurial and highly moral, this Doctor would often despair at the cruelty and wastefulness he encountered across the galaxies. On a trip to America in 1999, he was accidentally gunned down by a street gang and taken to hospital, where the procedures taken to try and save him did the reverse and he seemingly died, only to regenerate within the hospital’s morgue…”

The new figure is now available to pre-order at the price of £14.99 from Forbidden Planet, and is expected to arrive at their warehouse on 13th December 2010.

Doctor Who 13'' Remote Controlled Eternal Dalek

It has been revealed that Toys R Us will be stocking a remote controlled version of the yellow Eternal Dalek, which includes flashing lights and speech, motorised Dalek movement, a poseable gun and arm, and an illuminated eye.

“Many years ago, the Daleks sent out thousands of egg-shaped Progenitors containing the genetic coding of the race, so that new Daleks could be created whenever necessary. One of these Progenitors was found in war-torn England during the Second World War and transported to a Dalek ship.

However, because the Daleks that found it had been genetically modified by their creator Davros, using his own DNA, the Progenitor did not acknowledge them as pure Daleks, until the Doctor identified them as such and the Progenitor created a new race of powerful Daleks as a result.”
