STORY: The First Doctor and his companions Steven and Dodo land on a distant planet in the far future, where they find the planet inhabited by both an advanced and a savage civilisation. The Elders welcome The Doctor into their society, but he soon becomes suspicious of their seemingly perfect civilisation…

FACTS:
• This story marks the final appearance of Peter Purves in his character of Steven Taylor, who had first appeared a year earlier in the final part of ‘The Chase’.
• This was the first story of the series to have an overall title divided into numbered parts, instead of separate titles for each episode.
• All four episodes of this story are missing from the BBC archives, apart from a few brief off-air recordings made by fans.
