A Matter of Time: The Daemons
ORIGINAL BROADCAST: 29/05/1971
DOCTOR: Jon Pertwee
COMPANION: Katy Manning
STORY: The Third Doctor and Jo Grant drive to an archaeological dig at Devil’s Hump, a Bronze Age burial mount. However, when they stop at a local pub to ask for directions, one of the villagers informs The Master of The Doctor’s presence. If he is allowed to succeed, The Master will destroy life as we know it. Azal is coming…
FACTS:
• The model shot of a church blowing up was so convincing that many viewers wrote letters of complaint, thinking that the BBC had blown up a real church.
• The clip of the Brigadier’s helicopter exploding as it crashes into the heat shield is taken from the James Bond film ‘From Russia with Love’.
• The incantation that the Master uses in summoning Azal is actually the nursery rhyme ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ said backwards.
