A Matter of Time: The Long Game

ORIGINAL BROADCAST: 07/05/2005

Five years ago today, the ninth Doctor and his companions Rose and Adam arrived on Satellite 5, a spacestation that broadcasts across the entire Human Empire. However, the Doctor senses that things are wrong on the station. Why do the promoted few never return from the legendary Floor 500? This story starred Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose Tyler, and Bruno Langley as Adam Mitchell.

In the book ‘The Shooting Scripts’, Russell T Davies claims that he had originally decided to write the episode from Adam’s perspective, watching the adventure unfolding from his point of view. He eventually decided against it, as it largely resembled the episode ‘Rose’, where she meets the Doctor for the first time. He had even given this outline with the working title of ‘Adam’.

When the Editor announces the Jagrafess’s full name to the Doctor and Rose, he actually pronounces it as ‘The Mighty Jagrafress of the Holy Hadrajassic Maxaraddenfoe’. Simon Pegg admitted during an interview that he had found this an extremely difficult line to say, so to avoid inconsistencies with pronunciations, the Jagrafess roars loudly throughout his speech.
