A Matter of Time: The Doctor’s Daughter

ORIGINAL BROADCAST: 10/05/2008

Two years ago today, the Doctor and his companions Donna and Martha were whisked away to the planet Messaline, where they were caught up in a war between the Humans and the Hath races. However, when the Doctor’s hand gets caught in a progenation machine, he discovers that he is no longer the last of the Time Lords. This story starred David Tennant as the tenth Doctor, Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, and Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones.

In the episode ‘Fear Her’, the Doctor mentions to Rose that he was once a father, although this is likely to be referring to Susan’s mother. Susan was the Doctor’s granddaughter, who had travelled as the First Doctor’s companion from ‘An Unearthly Child’ to ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’.

Georgia Moffett, who plays the character of Jenny, is the real-life daughter of Peter Davison, the actor who played the fifth Doctor. Moffett had previously auditioned for the role of Rose Tyler in 2004, and for a role in ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp’ in 2007. Her role as Jenny was not chosen because of her father, but purely by coincidence. She is also currently in a relationship with David Tennant.
