A Matter of Time: Death to the Daleks

Thirty-six years ago today, the Daleks appeared in their tenth television adventure, set on the planet Exxilon and starring Jon Pertwee as the Doctor. This story saw them with a completely different colour scheme of silver and black, although they were changed back to the usual grey colour for Genesis of the Daleks.

The other main difference was that their standard energy weapons were inoperative on the planet Exxilon, so the Daleks replaced them with machine guns. This weapon was effective against the primitive natives of the planet, but less so against the sophisticated defence systems of the city. This loss of power could be the “death” in the title.
